February 2025

February is Library Lover’s Month, so it’s appropriate that my article on the Lumberman’s Library should appear in the February edition of Roundup Magazine. The Lumberman’s Library was a first-edition bookmobile. It was a specially constructed railroad car that made the rounds between the lumber camps of the Anaconda Mining Lumber operations in the early years of the twentieth century.

I’ll be signing copies of my award-winning novel, The Sons of Philo Gaines, and some of my anthologies. I’m excited to visit the town where I grew up and attended school, and I hope to see some old friends.

But three days is a long time when you’re dodging a deadly mountain storm and your prisoner’s partner is still on the loose and gunning for Logan.

My article, The Night Texas Bombed Oklahoma, will appear in the February issue of Roundup Magazine. This tells the account of an incident that took place just past midnight on July 5, 1943, when a B-17 Flying Fortress took off from the U.S. Army Air Force base in Dalhart, Texas, and bombed the small Oklahoma town of Boise City.

Alberton Railroad Day Festival

Michael R. Ritt will be attending the 69th Annual Western Writers of America (WWA) Convention Wednesday through Saturday, June 22-25 in Great Falls, Montana. Each year WWA holds its annual convention somewhere in the American West. Members, agents, publishers, editors, and more gather together to talk shop, learn, teach, make connections, renew friendships, and listen to music.

My article, Buffalo Soldiers on Bicycles, will appear in the April issue of Roundup Magazine. This is an account of a group of Buffalo Soldiers from the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps out of Fort Missoula, who in 1897 began a journey of almost 2,000 miles to St. Louis, MO. Their goal was to prove the efficacy of bicycles in combat.
